Ministry of Sound Classical at Castle Howard

A couple of weeks after we were back from Northumberland, the chap and I were off to a one day dance festival at Castle Howard. This is something we like to try to do each year, the difference this year was we had also booked a pitch at the Castle Howard camp site, a couple of miles country walk away from the event.

We arrived mid-afternoon, I poured the rum and colas and left the chap to pitching the tent. It's only a small one so it didn't take long. We were surrounded by envy inducing campervans, and just as I was about to depart for the toilet block to get ready we heard a holler from one of them. It was someone who the chap knows (this happens a lot when we're out and about), so I left him with them while I went off to get ready. He was still there when I got back, so we stayed and had another rum and cola before setting off for the gig.

It wasn't too long a walk, and before long we were in the packed out venue. We decided to make food our first stop, before the queues for it got too big. That was a good shout since, later on, we queued for about 45 minutes for a coffee! Such is the caffeine dependency.

There were stalls selling event appropriate things, I got a glitter bomb on my face and the chap bought himself a faux fur bucket hat. We danced around to Ellie Sax, and Judge Jools and screamed loudly when some iconic tune that I'd danced to in nightclubs in the early 2000s came on.

My legs aren’t really that white!

Around 8pm, the dj's all left the stage and an orchestra came on. They were tremendous doing absolutely breathtaking versions of tunes like Insomnia (Faithless), and Cafe Del Mar. As night fell, a laser light show joined the performance and, honestly, it was stunning!

At the end we joined a convoy of drunk people walking back to the campsite along the dark country roads. Everyone was in good spirits as we all lit the way with torches and mobile phones, warning those behind us of steps or trip hazards. The highlight of course being two drunk women falling into the swamp at the side of the road. Thankfully the drought weather meant that the swamp was dry so no one was hurt, and everyone was in good humor.

That night, the weather broke. As we lay in our tent the rain pelted our tent and the temperature even dropped a little. I was glad of that. The next morning, we packed away our pitch in between rain showers, and drove back to Castle Howard to enjoy a delicious breakfast in their courtyard cafe. It was the perfect end to an amazing weekend.

Half Term Frolics

This week was half term in Yorkshire, and in true half term style, the weather has left a lot to be desired. Nonetheless I had three days off work to spend with little Miss, which is always fun no matter the weather. We started the week off fairly chilled, spending much of Monday crafting and doing more of our sequin art. We popped out for a coffee in the afternoon, and came home to watch some films. All in all a chilled day.  Tuesday we visited our friends, and I had a good old catch up with C while little Miss played with her son. They've been friends since they we're born, with only a couple of months between them. We only really get to meet up at the holidays and it's amazing to compare the photos of them on playdates when they were 2 or 3 with them now at approaching 7. Time goes so quickly.  Wednesday, my last day off work, we decided it was time we did something. We took a trip to nearby Malton, which is a lovely little town between Scarborough and York, and home ...

Round The Sun

Last week I celebrated my birthday, for pretty much half a week. I certainly like to mark an occasion! Marking my birthday with my favourite cake, Black Forest Gateau The day before my birthday I was in the office. There weren’t many people in so I mostly ended up eating the tub of chocolates I brought with me, to myself! The weather was still divine, so I took a lunchtime walk, and noticed some new graffiti on the streets of York.  In the doorway boy………… After work I met the chap, who treated me to a very indulgent birthday meal at The Ivy. While we waited for our (delicious) Chicken supremes to arrive I was allowed to open my gifts a day early, and was wowed by a stash of Tank Girl merch, including a collection of 3 books that include every edition of Tank Girl, ever. I adored the Tank Girl graphic novels (or comics as I used to call them) in the 90s, and loved the film with Lori Petty too. The chap frequently has to listen to me complain that I never come across them anywh...

Easter Weekend

When I logged off last Wednesday it was in the knowledge that I wouldn’t be back online (for work purposes at least) for well over a week. As much as I enjoy my job, there’s nothing quite like a week of freedom! I met the chap after work, and we went for a pizza and beer to celebrate.  On Thursday, we were unexpectedly graced by the sunshine, which was welcome since we had appointments in town. An eye test for little Miss and nails for me. Although the sun didn’t bring much warmth, it was perfect for wearing these Joe Browns boots Mum bought for me a few Christmases back. I love them but only cool dry days work for them. Boots - Joe Browns, Dress - River Island. Thankfully, little Misses eye test came back perfect. After a spot of shopping, including getting some gifts for little Misses birthday later this month, and raiding the Claire’s accessories clearance sale for bag charms, it was time to get my nails done. I plumped for a beautiful iridescent pink for my nails, and the...
